What to eat in Prague

To be honest, some people think that Czech food is not very good. The truth is that not many visitors have a chance to try traditional delicious Czech food.

Either they don’t want to try different food and they end up eating in the Italian restaurant in Prague or they just don’t know where and what to eat in Prague.

Moreover, I would always recommend discovering the beauty of Prague by visiting classic popular tourist places like Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and Old Town square.

Now back to food, so the question is what and where to eat in Prague?

Let’s start with the traditional Czech dishes you definitely have to try.

Traditional Czech food

Traditional Czech cuisine has many different dishes but the base is meat, meat and meat. And of course potatoes. So basically, if we make it short, its all about meat and potatoes.

Let me explain some of the most traditional dishes from Czech cuisine which should be on your list when travelling to Prague.

Svíčková (Beef sirloin with cream sauce and bread dumplings)

Probably the most typical Czech meal and you will find it at most menus in any Czech restaurant.

To be honest, I really love this dish, especially made by my grandmother. There is nothing better than have homemade bread dumplings with this delicious cream sauce and beef meat.

Knedlo, Vepřo, Zelo (Dumplings, Saurekraut, Pork loin)

Another classic must eat in Prague. I am sure you will find this classic Czech dish almost everywhere. It is delicious and quite heavy, so I would not recommend it during a hot summer.

Basically, it is pork loin accompanied by pickled and sour cabbage, either red or white cabbage, and bread dumplings.

Pork knuckle is famous dish not only in the Czech Republic but also in Germany and other European countries.

My favourite is definitely pork knuckle marinated in dark Czech beer. There are different varieties of this dish and it is usually served with potato dumplings or bread accompanied by fresh radish dip.

Food to eat with Czech Beer

You might already know that the Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world. Yes, we just love beer! The funny thing is that in most pubs, the beer is cheaper than water so the decision is clear.
